Verdi’s tragic romance is one of the most popular operas on the planet, for good reason. Featuring some of the world’s most iconic theatrical moments, this bittersweet love story centers around the beautiful, pleasure-loving but frail courtesan Violetta, who unexpectedly finds true (and ultimately tragic) love with a younger man. This timeless tale of moral hypocrisy and selfless sacrifice features exquisite arias like “Sempre libera” and the mournful “Addio del passato.” The Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera brings it to the stage at the Taper Auditorium, Los Angeles Public Library Central Library.
